Abstract

(analytical)
During adolescence, a sense of citizenship is constructed through civic participation in a range of settings that facilitate social interactions such as community, family, institutions, and culture. This article describes young people's networks and relationships in contexts that generate psychosocial development through adolescent civic participation in the municipalities of Facatativá, Ubaté, and Fusagasugá, in Cundinamarca. This qualitative study used the network mapping technique with theparticipation of 18 adolescents. Results highlighted the multifunctional role of the family, characterized by an increased number of contacts and interactions. Young people also develop denser community networks that are characterized by close relationships and increased civic engagement. This
is manifested through cultural engagement such as artistic and sporting activities, social expression
and collective and community actions. These relational contexts enhance the psychosocial processes that are generated through participation.

Keywords: Participation; citizenship; adolescence; network mapping.
