Checking similarities of articles to other online documents

When authors upload their articles to the magazine’s online editorial system (Open Journal System) to be published in the Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Niñez y Juventud (Latin American Journal of Social Sciences, Childhood and Youth), they declare that these are completely or partly unpublished and that they haven’t been presented for publication to other sites. In order to verify this, the magazine uses the anti-plagiarism program TurnitinTM that searches through the internet and determines the percentage of similarity the article has to other texts (if there are similarities) and the addresses of the sites it appears on. This search is also supported by two other anti-plagiarism programs Cross CheckTM and ViperTM.
