Abstract

This study explores the relationship between social network use and mental health, in particular anxiety,
self-esteem and body image, in Colombian Generation Z business students. An exploratory sequential mixed methods multistage approach was used. Qualitative data were collected through a focus group and quantitative data with a survey applied to 361 students. Qualitative analysis was performed by iterative categorization and quantitative analysis included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations and t-test. The results show that networks are mostly used for communication and entertainment; women report more anxiety. Although they do not perceive impact on decisions or relationships, they do recognize the influence on body image.
